2011 Netball Review

During terms 2 and 3 a lot of year 4, 5 and 6 girls have been playing netball and representing Hampden Street School each Wednesday afternoon or Saturday morning. The teams are HSS Sting, HSS Magic, HSS Hoops, HSS Flames and HSS Hotshots. HSS Sting and Magic have been very successful and won most of their matches. For the finals all the netball girls will play in a big tournament with 3 games, music, competitions and a lot of fun. We would like to thank our coaches and managers:-Libby Archer, Vonnie Christian, Kate Cronin, Miss Adams, Miss Bidlake, Janeen Bell, Nicola Rae and Donna Kennedy.

Miniball Review

We have three miniball teams this year. A year 4 team called the Slammers, a year 5/6 team called the Mini-Giants and a year 6 team called the Breakers. The Slammers won their first game on the 2nd September. The Mini-Giants made the final for third division for a mixed year 5/6 grade and the Breakers secured their place in the final with a 40-14 win over Enner Glynn. They play St Paul’s in the final and having beaten them in the league hope to win again. The Breakers entered a half day tournament but lost in the final to, you know who, St Paul’s. We would like to thank our coaches: - Ben Wright, Lance Toma and Vonnie Christian, and Mrs White for organizing miniball again this year.

Cross Country Season 2011

This year we have had an outstanding cross country season. The Girls team won the Primary School’s Cross Country League for the fourth year running and won the Nelson Primary School Championship for the first time. The Boys team wasn’t quite as strong, however still finished second in each of these events. Hannah Mackay-Wright won two of the four league races finishing second overall and Max Meffan won all four league races being crowned overall Champion. Hannah also won the Nelson Regional Championships and was second in the South Island Championships. Unfortunately due to injury Max finished fourth in the Nelson Regional Championships and had to withdraw for the South island Championships.

This is the first year we have had Junior Syndicate cross country races and these were a great success.

Max Meffan, BurtyMeffan and Hannah Mackay-Wright are going to the NZ National Championships in Blenheim and are hoping to pick up some top 5 placing’s. Great season guys!
