Syndicate News!

Welcome back to another busy term in the middle syndicate.  The highlight of the term will undoubtable be the school production in week 10 but we also have a number of other events lined up including the annual cross country, gymnastics with Linda Mace and an always enjoyable topic on Kiwiana.

Term 1 Highlights

  • Another fun visit from Harold and the Life Education bus
  • Hampden House cleaning up in the middle syndicate swimming sports and interhouse relay.
  • Local printmaker Clare Makwana spending a day in each class and helping the children to produce some amazing prints which are now on display in the hall.  Well done to Micah McMillan whose print was judged the best overall.
  • Visits to the Nelson Museum to check out the fantastic Cawthorn Institute Science exhibit.

She’ll be right!

It’s that time again…school production!  As you have probably heard we are doing a production later this term based around Kiwiana.  It will be chocker full of classic kiwi music, icons, humour and famous faces.  As a lead in to this we are doing an Inquiry unit about famous kiwi icons.  We will look at where they came from and what makes them so unique to NZ.  From this learning we will look to develop icons and symbols for the Hampden Street School house system which we can display around the school and at inter house events.  If you have any classic Kiwiana icons that you are happy to lend to the classes for displays, we would be very appreciative.  Cheers mate!

 Reminders

  • Children should not be at school before 8:15 as they will be unsupervised.  It is great to see them so keen to learn but please hold them back until this time.
  • Make sure you are signing your child’s homework sheet to show they are practising their spelling and basic facts with you each week.  It is also important that you continue to read with your child.  All classes have reading books or browsing boxes that children are able to choose reading books from.
  • Keep checking class blogs and websites to see what is happening in the classes.  Links to these can be found through the Hampden Street School website: (www.hampdenstreet.school.nz/)

Please contact your child’s teacher if you have any concerns regarding their education.
(Teachers are unavailable afterschool Mon & Tues)
